Red Light Therapy: What You Should Know About It
There are some fundamental differences between our innovative red light therapy and the classic red light lamp. On this page you will find out everything you need to know about Helsi™ red light therapy.

How to use red light correctly: how long and how often?
Red light therapy has developed significantly in recent years. With our Helsi™ Go , Helsi™ Mini and Helsi™ Plus devices, you can easily use the latest technology optimized by Helsi™ at home. Here you can find out how long and how often you should use near-infrared red light therapy and what effects you can achieve with it. But first we would like to briefly explain what red light and near-infrared light mean and what the advantages of our modern devices are.

The Effect of Red Light Therapy
An absolutely safe form of therapy when used correctly LLLT is a non-invasive form of treatment in which low-power lasers or LEDs are brought close to the skin. Light is converted into energy using photoreceptors in the skin, or more precisely: LLLT increases the production of ATP in the mitochondria. The list of health benefits of this form of therapy is endless, but today we will only tell you the most important ones.

Red light therapy: Better than the classic red light lamp?
Not all red light therapy is the same. This type of therapy has developed significantly since the classic red light lamp. Our near-infrared red light therapy devices contain the most modern and user-friendly technology. What is red light? The light visible to the human eye is electromagnetic waves with a wavelength of 380 to 780 nm (nanometers). The visible spectrum begins with violet light (380-420 nm), continues with the other colors of the rainbow and ends with red light, which has a wavelength of 650-780 nm.

FAQ
How safe is red light therapy at home?
Red light therapy at home is completely safe and, if used correctly, not dangerous in any way. Red light therapy is basically nothing more than light hitting your skin. However, our therapy equipment does not contain the harmful UV component that is found in sunlight, for example.
This means you are never in danger of suffering from sunburn or heat stroke. On the other hand, our products do not stimulate vitamin D production.
If you still experience symptoms or have specific questions about your near-infrared red light therapy, do not hesitate to contact us - we look forward to hearing from you!
What are the benefits of red light therapy?
Red light therapy has a positive effect on your health in many ways. Roughly summarized, the biggest benefits are...
- pain relief
- Reduce inflammation in the body
- skin rejuvenation (increase in collagen and elastin production)
- Faster muscle recovery
- Improved thyroid health
- testosterone increase (especially in men)
- Strengthened mental health
- Improved sleep quality and orderly sleep pattern
How often should I ideally use red light therapy?
Once a day for about 10-15 minutes per application area is optimal. If you want to carry out several treatments per day on the same application areas, at least 6 hours should pass between treatments.
What is the difference between red light therapy and the classic red light lamp?
In Germany, the classic red light lamps are very popular, and are used primarily for sinus infections or muscular tension. While red light lamps also produce red light and infrared radiation, they do not have nearly the same effect and intensity as the near-infrared red light therapy from Helsi™.
The name already suggests that this form of treatment deals with the effects of infrared rays and red light on the human body. Near-infrared red light therapy has been extensively researched in recent years and its effectiveness, including health benefits, has been confirmed in many ways.
Have the health effects of red light therapy been scientifically researched?
Of course, there are already a number of scientific studies examining the effects of red light therapy on the human body.
You can find an excerpt from various studies here .
Do I need a mask for red light therapy?
No, you don't need your own mask. The red light rays can actually have a positive effect on your eyes. However, we include protective goggles with each product that you can wear during therapy if your eyes are sensitive.
How does red light therapy affect my sleep?
Initial clinical research suggests that red light therapy can improve the duration and quality of your sleep and help you produce more of your own melatonin (sleep hormone).
Light plays an important role in the sleep cycle. The body's internal clock (also called the circadian rhythm) interprets light as a sign of waking and sleeping times. Sunlight, especially in the morning and evening, signals to the body what time it is. When the sun sets in the evening, we are already moving very strongly in the red color spectrum.
Studies have shown that red light supports the sleep cycle and does not disrupt it like bright blue light.
Does red light therapy help against depression?
Red light therapy can help improve mental health.
In 2018, leading researchers in the field of mental health conducted the pilot study “Elated-2” to test transcranial near-infrared red light therapy for people with symptoms of major depression.
The positive results of this groundbreaking study have promoted optimism about the wider use of natural light treatments for people with depression.
Another study was conducted in 2017. This involved approximately 39 people with traumatic brain injuries and mild to severe depression symptoms. It also demonstrated an antidepressant effect of light therapy treatments.
Can I lose weight with red light therapy?
Due to the positive effects on sleep quality, mental health, the body's hormone balance and more energy in everyday life, red light therapy can indirectly help with weight loss.
Will red light therapy improve my skin?
LLLT or LED (red light) therapy has been known in the beauty industry for a long time and is regularly used by stars and celebrities. The main reason is to reduce inflammation in the skin. Due to increased blood and oxygen circulation, damaged skin tissue can be repaired more quickly, leading to increased regeneration.
In a study, researchers measured that the use of near-infrared and red light therapy led to an increase in the body's own collagen. In short, collagen is a protein produced by the body that, among other things, provides structure and stability, for example in bones or in the skin.
What is the difference between red light and blue light therapy?
The difference between red light therapy and blue light therapy lies in the different color spectra and wavelengths of the light that shines onto the skin.
It would be wrong to claim that one form of light therapy is better than the other. Both forms of therapy can help against acne, for example, and can be used in combination.
In the evening, however, red light, which imitates the light at sunset, is preferable for a healthy sleep pattern.
Are Helsi™ devices better than a red light therapy bed?
We are of course a little biased here. AURORA's therapy devices are much more space-saving and also a little cheaper than a "Red Light Therapy Bed", which you have to lie down in like a solarium.
The red light therapy bed provides complete irradiation of the entire body.
What makes the Helsi™ red light therapy lamps so special?
Helsi™ red light lamps have 30-degree glass lenses (state-of-the-art lens technology) with which the light rays penetrate the skin efficiently and have their effect in the cells.
Is it better to use red light therapy before or after a workout?
Basically, it doesn't matter when you use red light therapy. Treatment with red light promotes muscle regeneration and your rest periods are a little shorter. In this respect, the effect can be a little more positive directly after a strenuous workout.
