In short
What is a red light mask?
A red light mask, often called an LED mask, carries the LEDs right in front of your face instead of you sitting in front of a panel. The Helsi™ Mask has 54 LEDs with four colours each, 216 light points in all. It has three programmes: red light at 630 nm together with near-infrared at 850 nm, yellow at 590 nm and blue at 415 nm. Resting on eye pads, the mask sits about 15 mm from the skin so the light spreads evenly. The manual recommends 10 minutes a day.

Red light mask, red light panel or handheld?
All three give off LED light. They differ in how close the light gets to your skin, how much area it covers and whether you can move during a session.

Typical figures for each type, as of November 2026. If you want light on your neck, shoulders or body as well as your face, a red light panel suits you better. If you only want your face and your hands free, the mask does.
Three programmes, four wavelengths
The main programme: red light at 630 nm and near-infrared at 850 nm shine together. Red is visible, near-infrared barely, and of the four wavelengths it reaches deepest into tissue.
Yellow light sits between red and blue. The manual suggests combining it with the red programme, for example 10 minutes of red followed by 10 minutes of yellow.
The shortest wavelength on the mask. It mainly reaches the outermost layer of the skin. Like yellow, it can follow a red session, up to 30 minutes a day in total.
Choose the programme, one of three levels and a 10, 15, 20 or 30-minute timer on the controller. Its 2,600 mAh battery charges over USB-C, so you need no socket during a session.
Soft liquid silicone inside and out, with the LEDs moulded in. The open lattice keeps the mask light, the eye pads hold it about 15 mm from the skin. After a session, rinse it under running water.

Buying guide
Buying an LED mask: what to look for
Six signs of a good LED mask. In the film, Helsi™ co-founder Johannes Jess explains the difference between red light and near-infrared, the two wavelengths that matter most.
- 1
Wavelengths in nm
A serious maker states every colour with its wavelength. Red light sits around 600 to 660 nm, near-infrared around 800 to 860 nm. The Helsi™ Mask uses 630 and 850 nm, plus yellow at 590 and blue at 415 nm.
- 2
Near-infrared, not just red
Many cheap masks only glow visibly red. Near-infrared is barely visible but is at the core of red light therapy. On the Helsi™ Mask it runs together with red in the main programme.
- 3
LEDs and spread
Count the LEDs and check they cover the whole face, including forehead, chin and the edge of the cheeks. The Helsi™ Mask has 54 LEDs with four colours each, 216 light points.
- 4
Distance and fit
A mask pressed onto the skin concentrates light in spots. A little distance spreads it more evenly. The Helsi™ Mask rests on eye pads about 15 mm from the skin, with an adjustable strap.
- 5
Material and cleaning
Soft silicone rather than a hard plastic shell, and a mask you can wash. The Helsi™ Mask is liquid silicone and waterproof to IP67.
- 6
Warranty and maker
CE marking, a manual in your language and a maker you can reach. Helsi™ gives a 2-year warranty and answers from Germany.

How to use the red light mask
- 01
Skin test
Before the first use, hold the mask to the inside of your forearm for 10 minutes and wait 6 hours. If you see redness or itching, do not use it on your face.
- 02
Clean your face
Remove make-up. Toner is fine, light-sensitive or whitening products are not.
- 03
Put on and choose
Put the mask on, adjust the strap, connect the controller. Pick a programme and start on the lowest level. Keep your eyes closed during the session.
- 04
10 minutes
The manual recommends 10 minutes a day and 30 minutes at most. Start every other day, then 3 to 5 times a week. Follow with your usual skincare.
Figures from the Helsi™ user manual. Not for children, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with pronounced melasma. Do not combine with strong exfoliants. If you take medication that increases light sensitivity, ask your doctor first.
